Abstract
Introduction: Suicide mortality is a multifactorial phenomenon in today's society and a particularly sensitive issue among public security agents. Methods: This is an integrative review study, which followed the recommendations of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), which sought to review the literature on factors associated with suicide mortality among public security officers. The databases used were PubMed and VHL. Studies were selected in three stages: titles, abstracts and full reading. The data was extracted by two independent reviewers, and tables and flowcharts were constructed in order to order and summarize relevant information from each study. Results: 2,604 articles were found and 17 were selected for analysis. The highest suicide rates per 100,000 were observed in the studies from the United States of America (31.5) and Canada (21.78). The majority of the victims were men aged between 30 and 50. In the study, a relationship was observed between years worked, position held, detectives and investigators, and suicide, most of which occurred outside the work environment, often with the use of firearms, especially service weapons. Factors such as personal problems, psychiatric disorders and bereavement were recurrent motivational factors. Conclusion: Preventive actions focused on open dialog and psychological assistance are necessary. Further studies are also needed, especially in less researched contexts such as Latin American countries.
