Abstract

The present study aimed to analyze the implementation of the National Chagas Disease Control Program in two municipalities in the state of Bahia, Brazil. A normative evaluation of the dimensions and analysis of aspects of the organizational context was performed contemplating the degree of implementation and the analysis of the influence of the organizational context in the two locations considered endemic, classified as high and medium risk. Municipality 1 reached an implementation level of 61.60% and municipality 2 obtained 64.49%, both being considered intermediate, with a strong influence of the organizational context on the implementation level obtained. Among the facilities, we highlight the pioneering of entomological surveillance in municipality 1 and the structured health care network in municipality 2. However, there are still obstacles in the evaluated contexts, such as challenges in the sustainability of surveillance actions, incipient training and continuing education in Chagas disease, difficulties in early diagnosis and in the institution of specific and timely treatment. The importance of strengthening the actions of primary health care for the identification and extended care of cases of the disease by multidisciplinary teams to raise greater completeness of actions was evidenced.
