Abstract

This is a qualitative study that used documentary research to assess the health impacts of fishermen in the Environmental Impact Study (EIA) of the São Luiz do Tapajós Hydroelectric Power Plant; find gaps in riparian health in the Environmental Impact Study; and characterize and propose actions according to each level of the FPSEEA (Driving Force-Pressure-State-Exposure-Action-Action Matrix) matrix regarding the impacts that fishermen and riverine. The Environmental Impact Study was positive, but insufficient because it didn’t reach the specific impacts on riverside dwellers and fishermen. The matrix proved to be a timely and appropriate instrument, as it managed to broaden the view of the entire chain of impacts or possibilities of their occurrence, allowing the anticipation of measures to prevent diseases and injuries and protect the health of fishermen and riverside dwellers, giving greater consistency and grounding in decision-making. It is recommended that this model can be used by the project teams and, also, incorporate the knowledge and experiences of the population to contribute to decision-making with professionals, technicians and managers in the Health and Environment sector, among others that assist in the guidance for better resolutions to problems.
