Abstract
This article aims to reflect on the dialogue between modern scientific knowledge and knowledge constructed by traditional peoples and in the light of “Ecology of Knowledge” concept by Boaventura Sousa Santos. The debate arises from a project conducted in Quilombo community. Through environmental education activities, we discussed the issue of medicinal plants as part of traditional knowledge and its relationship with conventional medicine in the community. This allowed us to address, in a theoretical perspective, the elements that characterize the ecology of knowledge, pointing to the importance of dialogue between diverse knowledges – in the specific case, of traditional knowledge and scientific knowledge.
